April 17th 2006: Preparations and flight to Waw an Namus
Again nice and warm weather, how beautiful. After arriving at the airport we had to wait a long time for our flight plan to be accepted.
We are preparing the planes for our today’s flight to Waw an Namus. Everybody has programmed the coordinates in the GPS.

Waw an Namus
We take off at 11:30 and fly on a direct heading towards Waw an Namus. We are overflying the desert and are practicing some formation flying. For a while we fly together with the Bonanza.
At Waw an Namus, an old volcano with a blue lake in its middle, we circled for a while in the crater, made pictures an enjoyed this incredible wonder of the world. We then flew back to Waw al Kebir an Air force base for refuelling.

Late afternoon flight back to Sabha
After landing in Waw el Kebir we could refuel our planes. Like everywhere else in Libya they had an oversized “rubber mattress”. This one was leaking but nobody seemed to care too much about that.
Then we had a little rest and something to eat in the container village. The soldiers don’t have much to do in Waw el Kebir. Setting around, watching TV and waiting (I don’t know what for).
17:30 we took off for the late afternoon flight back to Sabha. We flew together with Tony and Alex+Jean-Claude. We did some formation flying and the light was great for a little photo session. We had a lot of fun.
