April 20th 2006: Flying to Tripoli
The morning was warm but again hazy and very windy (30 knots). Because of military activities we had instead of a direct route to Tripoli to make a big detour towards the east. After the briefing the warm wind was still blowing 90° across the runway. The tower gave us the authorisation to take off from the taxiway so we had a good headwind.
While climbing the oil temperature rose again in the yellow. In Egypt they call the war wind from the south "Chamsin". In FL 75 we found some cooler temperatures and the oil temperature went back in the green.
The view was sometimes bad and I had the artificial horizon turned on the whole time. We took turns in leading because it was very arduous to keep heading, height etc. We even had a few raindrops and we forgot to take pictures so we where occupied in navigating and not loosing each other out of site.
We landed in Tripoli Mittiga and it took two hours to refuel all the planes.
We lodged in a nice hotel (The Al Mahari) and the afternoon Daniel and I went to visit the souk and walk around in Tripoli. In the evening we went all together to nice fish restaurant. Our last evening in Libya.
